Color Paint Protection Film

Color PPF
Austin, TX

A full color change and complete paint protection in a single film. Changes your color, stops rock chips, self-heals, and lasts 7–10 years.

What Is Color PPF?

Color PPF is a pigmented paint protection film. It's the same self-healing urethane technology as standard clear PPF, but manufactured in color. One layer of film gives you a complete color change and full paint protection. No vinyl wrap underneath, no separate step.

The film blocks UV, stops rock chips, and self-heals minor scratches in the heat. Everything clear PPF does, but in a color you actually want. When you're ready to change it up or sell the car, it removes cleanly with factory paint fully intact underneath.

Not sure which one is right for your situation? We wrote a full comparison covering lifespan, cost over time, and which product actually makes sense for each buyer.

Full Vehicle Coverage

We install color PPF as a full vehicle job. Every painted panel covered: hood, roof, doors, fenders, bumper, mirrors, trunk lid. The whole car gets the color change and the protection at the same time.

Available in gloss, satin, and matte finishes. If you have a specific color in mind, send us your vehicle and we'll confirm what's available and show you samples before you commit.

Film Brands We Install

We run color PPF from 3M PWF, Cheetah PPC, SVG, GSWF, Platinum Wrapping Film Performance Line, Pure PPF, and Inozetek. Every one of those earned a spot in the shop through actual results on real cars, not a sales pitch. We're not scared to bring in another brand if a customer needs something specific, but this list is what we trust to hold color and stay bonded for the long haul.

Almost every color PPF brand we install carries a 7+ year manufacturer warranty against defects like cracking, peeling, and discoloration, on top of our own 12-month craftsmanship warranty on the install itself. That's two separate warranties working for you: one on the product, one on the work.

Why Color PPF Makes Sense in Austin

Central Texas is hard on paint. The UV index here runs among the highest in the country, and that sun is the main reason vinyl wraps fade before their time. Color PPF is built for this. UV inhibitors are engineered to hold color for 7–10 years in full sun.

Hail is a real concern in this area too. Leander and the northwest Austin suburbs see more hail events per year than most of the country. No film stops large hailstones, but color PPF gives you meaningful protection against the smaller impacts that would otherwise chip and dent paint directly.

And if you're commuting on MoPac, 183, or I-35, your front end is taking chip damage every day. I see it on every car that comes in with highway miles on it. The thick urethane in color PPF absorbs those impacts before they reach the clear coat.

Why Color PPF

Protection and Color Change. One Film.

Color Change + Protection Combined

Standard PPF protects. A wrap changes your color. Color PPF does both in one layer of film. One install, one warranty, one product to maintain.

7–10 Year Lifespan

Color PPF is rated 7–10 years. A vinyl wrap runs 3–5. If you're keeping the car for a decade, color PPF can be the better financial call. One install instead of two.

Self-Healing Surface

Minor scratches disappear in the heat. The urethane top coat heals itself in sunlight or with a heat gun. Your finish stays looking new without polishing or extra work.

Rock Chip Defense

The thick urethane layer absorbs impacts that would chip through paint. Essential on Austin's highways, where gravel kicked up by trucks puts constant damage on your hood and bumper.

UV Blocked at the Film Level

Color PPF's UV inhibitors are built into the film itself. Your paint and factory finish are protected beneath it the entire time the film is on the car -- no fading, no oxidation.

Factory Paint Preserved Underneath

When you remove color PPF after 7–10 years, your factory paint comes off in the same condition it went in. Resale value stays intact.

How It Works

How Color PPF Installation Works

Same process discipline we put into every job, just with a film that does double duty.

01
Color Match & Consult

We go over color, finish, and coverage. You see real samples before we order a single roll.

02
Decontamination & Prep

Wash, clay bar, and a full paint inspection. Any chips or damage get flagged before film goes on.

03
Panel-by-Panel Install

Every panel is wrapped and post-heated individually, edges tucked so seams stay hidden.

04
Cure & Final Inspection

We let the film settle, then walk the whole car under direct light before it leaves the shop.

Honest Take

Color PPF vs. a Vinyl Wrap

If you're keeping the car long-term and want real paint protection, color PPF makes sense. The upfront number is higher: full vehicle starts at $5,500 versus $3,000–$3,500 for a quality wrap. But a wrap needs to come off and get replaced at the 3–5 year mark. Run that over a decade and the numbers flip, and you've had chip protection the whole time.

Where wraps win is finish variety. Vinyl manufacturers have been releasing colors for 20+ years and the catalog runs deep. Color PPF has a solid and growing selection, but it's not the same depth. If you want a very specific color-shift, chrome finish, or something niche, vinyl is more likely to have it today.

I offer both and I'll tell you straight which one fits your situation. Most people keeping the car 7 or more years end up going with color PPF once they see the math. People who like changing it up every few years, or need a specific finish, usually stay with a wrap.

FAQ

Color PPF Questions Answered

Color PPF is a pigmented paint protection film. It's the same self-healing urethane technology used in standard clear PPF, but manufactured in color. It changes your vehicle's appearance while protecting the paint underneath from rock chips, UV damage, and minor scratches -- all in one layer of film.
Color PPF is rated for 7–10 years. That's significantly longer than a vinyl wrap, which runs 3–5 years under the same Texas sun. The film's UV inhibitors are built to hold color long-term without fading or yellowing.
Color PPF lasts longer, provides real paint protection against chips and hail, and can be the better value if you're keeping the car 7+ years. Vinyl wraps have a larger catalog of finishes and a lower upfront cost -- they're still the right move if you want maximum variety or plan to change colors. We offer both and will help you figure out which fits your situation.
Color PPF is available in gloss, satin, and matte finishes across a solid range of colors. The selection is still more limited than the vinyl wrap catalog, but it's growing fast. If you have a specific color in mind, send us your vehicle details and we'll confirm what's available and show you samples.
If you're keeping the car 7–10 years, often yes. A full vehicle color PPF install starts at $5,500. A wrap starts around $3,000–$3,500 but needs to be replaced at the 3–5 year mark, putting you at $6,000–$7,000 over the same period. Color PPF also includes rock chip and UV protection a wrap doesn't provide. If you're keeping the car and want protection, color PPF is usually the smarter long-term buy.
Two separate warranties. The film itself carries a 7+ year manufacturer warranty against cracking, peeling, and discoloration on nearly every brand we install. On top of that, we back the installation with our own 12-month craftsmanship warranty, so if anything about the work itself isn't right, we fix it free.
A full vehicle color PPF install typically takes 5–7 days. The film is cut precisely for your specific vehicle and applied panel by panel. We'll give you an exact timeline in your quote.
Wash it like a painted panel: pH-neutral soap, soft mitt, no automatic brush washes. Skip harsh degreasers directly on the film. Minor scratches heal on their own in direct sun or with a heat gun, so polishing is rarely needed. A ceramic coating on top adds gloss and makes it easier to keep clean.
Small chips and light scratches get addressed in prep and won't show through the film. Deeper dents or damage need to be fixed first, since film follows the surface underneath rather than hiding it. We'll flag anything that needs paint or bodywork attention before we quote the job.
Standard color PPF quotes cover painted body panels. Wheels and calipers aren't film candidates, we'd point you toward powder coating or paint for those. Trim and mirror caps can be included depending on the material, just let us know what you want covered when you send your vehicle details.
Yes. We're based in Cedar Park and serve customers throughout the Austin metro -- Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock, Georgetown, Pflugerville, and Austin proper. Most customers drop off and pick up from our Cedar Park shop. Send us your vehicle details and we'll get you a quote.
